RENT


CENTERstage Productions announces auditions for Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, Rent. Based loosely on Puccini’s La Boheme, Rent follows a year in the life of a group of young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.  This story is about love, creating art, and how to live and embrace life in the face of loss and many obstacles.

*May include light movement so please be prepared to move

Performance Dates:  January 6 - 22, 2023. Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 3pm

 

Seeking: Singers/dancers/actors of all ethnicities, gender-identities, and ages who are ready to commit to bringing to life the world of the characters.

Prepare/Bring: 16-32 bars of a song, something in the style of Rent preferred if possible, but any song is welcome! Sheet music if you have it available although acapella is welcome as well.

Casting Breakdown:

 

MARK COHEN: Baritone/Second Tenor. A filmmaker who has left behind his affluent upbringing to pursue his craft.

ROGER DAVIS: Rock Tenor. In recovery from addiction, searching for answers through one last song.

MIMI MARQUEZ: Raw voice with high belt. Vulnerable and brave young woman who is struggling with drug addiction.

TOM COLLINS: Baritone. Former roommate of Mark, Roger, and Benny.

BENNY: Baritone/second tenor. Went to college with Mark. Lived with Roger, Collins, Maureen and Mark. Married into a wealthy family.

ANGEL:  High tenor with good falsetto. Outgoing, flamboyant, honest and caring individual living on the New York Streets with AIDS.

MAUREEN JOHNSON:  Large vocal range. A performance artist who may not realize how her actions are effecting those who love her.

JOANNE JEFFERSON:  Pop belt. Harvard grad with affluent upbringing. Has an insecure relationship with Maureen.

ENSEMBLE (all ages, races): Great actors/singers who move well to play various characters including: Joanne’s Dad/Mom, Mark’s & Roger’s Mom, Life Support Group, Squeegee Man, Seasons of Love Soloist, and more.
