This beautifully human, lyrical comedy explores true love, self-awareness, gender roles, as well as the high cost of revenge. The production will be set in the early 20th Century. We’re looking for a diverse ensemble of actors aged 18 to 60,
including actors who can play guitar, violin, drums etc.
Cast:
Orsino - Duke of Illyria, in love with Olivia
Curio and Valentine - Members of his court
Viola – Well-bred young woman who survives a shipwreck, pretends to be a young man to gain access to Orsino’s court.
Sebastian – Twin brother to Viola, believed to have died in the shipwreck.
Olivia - Countess, mourning the deaths of her father and brother, she has rejected Orsino.
Toby Belch - Uncle of Olivia, an rapidly aging drinking man, living off his niece’s generosity.
Andrew Aguecheek – A sad sack of a rich suitor who, prompted by Toby, thinks he has a shot with Olivia.
Maria - Olivia’s lady’s maid. She is very close with Toby.
Feste – Olivia’s fool (household comic entertainer).
Malvolio – Olivia’s steward (head butler). A humorless prude with delusions of grandeur.
Fabian – groundskeeper to Olivia and is enlisted by Toby and Maria in household trickery.
Antonio – A sailor with a mysterious past who becomes Sebastian’s protector.
Sea Captain – A kind boat captain who helps Viola.
Chief Officer – Police constable in the town.
Cast will double as sailors, townspeople, servants, etc.
If you can, please prepare a Shakespeare monologue or sonnet. If you can’t, no worries, we’ll provide some at the audition.
