The CENTER Players on Tour announces open auditions for the interactive touring show Rip Van Winkle adapted by Lou Trapani and Babette Fasolino, inspired by the original Washington Irving story.

Synopsis

A live theater show based on Washington Irving’s classic tale of a man who sleeps in the Catskill Mountains for 20 years and awakens to a long beard and a greatly changed world. Interactive performance, where audience members become part of the show!

Director: Morgan McKinley

Location: The CENTER for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck.

Rehearsals: Mostly on weekends or weekdays after 7PM.

Performance Dates: May begin in November 2024. Most will be during the school day, though occasionally we will do a Saturday morning show at The CENTER

Seeking: Seeking versatile actors 18+ with background in physical comedy, dance, and/or movement. Cast must be available during weekday school hours and be able to assist with lifting and moving during load and strike of touring shows. Cast must submit to a pre-employment background check. Cast will receive a stipend for rehearsals as well as a stipend per performance.

We strongly encourage women, persons of color, and LGBTQ+ individuals to audition. We are committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all areas of our work.

Prepare / Bring: An acting resume. Your personal calendar- please be prepared to list all conflicts.  Proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Be prepared to present a memorized 1-2 minute story.

Digital submission: If you are unable to attend either audition date, you are welcome to submit an audition digitally. Anyone invited to the callback must attend in person.

Casting Breakdown

All characters will have dialogue, long speeches, and improvised interactions with children. 

DIDI- Any gender identity, any age. One of the narrators of the show.

GRETCHEN- Any gender identity, any age. One of the narrators of the show.

RIP VAN WINKLE- Any gender identity. Ideally casting 40+ but open to any age. The protagonist, Rip ages 20 years during the show with help of wigs and a fake beard.

UNDERSTUDY 1 (covers DIDI and GRETCHEN): Attends all rehearsals and will alternate with UNDERSTUDY 2 as sound and lighting tech during shows.

UNDERSTUDY 2 (covers RIP): Attends all rehearsals and will alternate with UNDERSTUDY 1 as sound and lighting tech during shows.
