Be More Chill Auditions

PRODUCTION DETAILS

“More than survive.” That’s all Jeremy Heere wants out of high school. But looking up from the bottom of the social ladder, there’s little hope for the uncool Jeremy. But what if there was an easy way to change all that? Enter the SQUIP, a Japanese nanocomputer in the form of an easy-to-swallow pill. The SQUIP will implant itself in your brain and tell you what to wear, what to say, and how to act to achieve ultimate coolness. Seems like an easy choice, right? But when things with the SQUIP take an unexpected, darker turn, is Jeremy willing to lose his best friend, his crush, his classmates, and the whole world, all in an effort to be more chill? Be More Chill is a hilarious sci-fi tale of high school and one boy’s quest to fit in.

IMPORTANT AUDITION DETAILS

This is a Teens on Stage Workshop.  Unlike past TOS programs, anyone interested in Be More Chill must first audition.  Once cast, cast members must register and pay for the workshop online.

Be More Chill explores sensitive themes such as teenage suicide, depression, underage drinking, sex, and drug use.  However, the production is overall uplifting and empowering.  Participants must be at least 13 years old at the start of classes.  Parents are encouraged to determine whether it is appropriate for their teen before their teen auditions.

As of 7/8/2022: Artists are not mandated to provide proof of vaccination but if they do not, they MUST undergo weekly COVID tests and all such COVID tests will be provided by CENTERstage. Artists are not mandated to wear masks during rehearsals but it is recommended that they do so.

Auditions will be held on Friday July 8 from 12PM-2PM and Saturday July 9 from 3PM-5PM downstairs at The CENTER. Those auditioning only need to come to one of these dates.  Auditions will happen on a first come, first served basis.

We are committed to diverse casting.  We strongly encourage women, men, persons of color, and LGBTQ+ individuals to audition.

Be More Chill is a musical.  Please prepare a 32-bar cut of a song in the style of the show (can be from show or not).  Those auditioning should bring sheet music for accompanist or come prepared with backing track to sing along to; auditions cannot be done a cappella. Sides will be provided at auditions (or via email if a virtual audition is requested).

If you cannot attend either audition date, please reach out to Lynne at lynne.czajka@gmail.com to arrange a virtual audition no later than Wednesday July 6.
