CENTERstage Productions announces open auditions for The Little Tragedies by Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, directed by Vera Perry. 

Four short plays explore the deadly sins. In The Miserly Knight, a father and son are brought to violence over money. In A Feast in the Time of Plague, a group of revelers attempt to ignore the disease devastating their community. In Mozart and Salieri, the frustrated composer Antonio Salieri plots against his rival. In The Stone Guest, Don Juan returns from exile, intent on a conquest that may be his last.

The Little Tragedies will be the inaugural production in our newly constructed black box performance space. The CENTER’s downstairs black box theatre space is designed to showcase new playwrights and directors.

Location: The CENTER for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck, Black Box Theatre

Performance Dates: Friday, May 31 at 8pm, Saturday, June 1 at 8pm, Sunday, June 2 at 3pm

Seeking: A cast of 8-12 actors to play 2-3 roles each across four plays. All genders will be considered for all roles.

Casting Breakdown

Albert - An angsty young knight.

Jean - Albert’s manservant.

Solomon - A moneylender who endures many insults from Albert.

Baron - Albert’s father, very wealthy and paranoid about threats to his wealth.

Duke - The monarch to whom Albert and the Baron are answerable.

Young Man - A man at a feast, keeping his spirits up after the death of a friend.

Chairman - Another feaster attempting to keep everyone cheerful in the face of plague.

Mary - A young woman who thinks herself highly talented.

Louisa - Mary’s friend, jealous of the attention she gets.

Priest - A local priest tasked with burying the dead.

Salieri - A studious, serious composer.

Mozart - A carefree, effortlessly talented composer.

Fiddler - A blind fiddler. Must be able to play fiddle or violin badly.

Don Juan - An exiled noble whose primary goal is seducing women.

Leporello - Don Juan’s manservant.

Monk - A monk at the monastery where Don Juan’s victim is buried.

Doña Anna - A young widow whose husband was killed by Don Juan.

Laura - An actress and former paramour of Don Juan.

Guests - Laura’s dinner guests.

Don Carlos - A nobleman, infatuated with Laura, with a grudge against Don Juan.

Statue - A statue of the Commander killed by Don Juan.
