Wizard of Oz: CENTER Players on Tour

Wizard of Oz Touring Production Auditions

Please read the below information and then follow the instructions if interested.

The CENTER Players on Tour is searching for two more actors to join our touring production of The Wizard of Oz, adapted for the stage from L. Frank Baum’s classic novel.

About this show: This is a 40 minute interactive adaptation that focuses on part of the book. This is NOT a musical. Dorothy has been captured by the Wicked Witch of the West and her friends, the Lion, the Tin Man, and the Scarecrow, must save her. But the Tin Man is rusted, the Scarecrow unstuffed, and the Cowardly Lion…well, he’s scared. Throughout the play, characters ask the children in the audience to help them overcome the Wicked Witch and save Dorothy. Children from the audience become Munchkins, help oil the Tin Man, and one youngster is even magically transformed into the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Actors take pictures with audience members and may be asked to stay for a Q and A after shows.

Rehearsal Location: Primarily The CENTER for Performing Arts, Rhinebeck, NY, though actors will need to do a good amount of learning and prep on their own.

Performances: Shows are scheduled in Hudson Valley schools or at The CENTER. Shows usually take place on weekday mornings during the school year or at 11am on the weekends. Our show has performed 10 times this school year so far, and we would like to increase our availability by adding more cast members.

Compensation: Cast will receive a stipend for rehearsals. Cast will receive a stipend for each show.

Cast: Cast must be available during weekday school hours and must be able to assist with load and strike of touring shows. Actors must be comfortable interacting with children and going with the flow during performances. Actors must complete a background check and submit a W-9 and, if eligible, will receive a 1099.

Roles in the show:

Dorothy: Female-identifying, 20s-30s

Lion: Any gender identity

Scarecrow: Any gender identity who is physically flexible

Tin Man: Any gender identity

We are seeking an actor to cover the roles of Dorothy and the Bad Witch/Good Fairy and an actor to cover the Lion, Scarecrow, and Tin Man roles. Covers will get chances to perform these roles.

We are using a fully vaccinated cast, crew, and production team on this show.
