Up in One Productions is thrilled to announce auditions for Once.

Once is the celebrated musical based on the Academy Award-winning film. It tells the story of an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant drawn together by their shared love of music. Over the course of one fateful week, their unexpected friendship and collaboration evolves into a powerful but complicated romance, heightened by the raw emotion of the songs they create together. It is a musical celebration of life and love: thrilling in its originality, daring in its honesty... and unforgettable in every way.

Winner of eight 2012 Tony Awards® including Best Musical and winner of the 2013 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, Once was also named Best Musical by the New York Drama Critics’ Circle, Drama Desk, Drama League, Outer Critics Circle and Lucille Lortel Awards, and ran for more than 1,100 performances on Broadway with acclaimed international productions from London and Melbourne to Japan and South Korea.

Once features the Academy Award-winning music and lyrics of Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, and a book by award-winning Irish playwright & screenwriter Enda Walsh.

~Dialect / accent work will happen during rehearsals - you do not have to come to auditions with an accent.

Girl: Female, 25-40. Mezzo-Soprano. Direct, intelligent, no nonsense, and witty. Should have something ‘other’ about her. Has had to work hard at life but doesn’t think she deserves any sympathy. A plus if you play the piano.

Guy: Male, 25-40. Baritone. A struggling Irish musician. Lost and a bit sad, but extremely appealing. Works with his Da in a vacuum repair shop. A plus if you play the guitar.

Billy: Male, 30-49. Baritone. A large Irish man. Owner of the music store where Girl plays piano. Loud, funny and protective of Girl but also has a vulnerability.

Reza: Female, 25-29. Soprano. A sexy, funny, smart Czech girl. Often a bit larger then life.

Baruska: Female, 45+. Alto. Mother of Girl. A cool but caring Czech mother who likes a full house and full stomachs. Doesn’t possess many inhibitions.

Bank Manager: Any gender identity, 30-49. Vocal type open. Seems quite prim and proper but has a secret passion for music.

Da: Male, 50+. Vocal type open. Guy’s dad. A man of few words, but a lovely and caring father.

Svec: Male, 20-39. Baritone. A real odd ball. Loves television and coffee.

Andrej: Male, 20-29. Baritone. Earnest and kind. It works well if he has a slight build, made slighter by his oversized suit. An employee at a fast food chain, but has big dreams.

Eamon: Male, 20-49. Baritone. The music studio manager where Guy and Girl record their album. A tough nut to crack but eventually gives into the musicians’ talents.

Emcee: Any gender identity, 20-49. The emcee at a bar. A good-natured ball buster. Must sing and play guitar* (and piano*) extremely well.

Ex-Girlfriend: Female, 20-39. Mezzo-Soprano. Guy’s ex-girlfriend who now lives in New York. Kind, lovely and likeable.

Ivonka: Girl's daughter. Gender: Female Age: 6 to 10
