The Taming of the Shrew field trip
April 25 & 26, 2017, 10:00 a.m.
Directed by Diana di Grandi for CENTERstage as part of the annual Sam Scripps Shakespeare Festival. Best suited for middle and high school students.
Shakespeare's timeless tale of love, marriage and the sexes. Lovely Bianca is the prize to be won by all the men looking to land themselves a wealthy wife. However, her father Baptista announces that Bianca cannot get married until a suitor is found for her fiery older sister, Katherine.
The Taming of the Shrew has been adapted numerous times for stage, screen, opera, ballet, and musical theatre; perhaps the most famous adaptations being Cole Porter's Kiss Me, Kate and the 1967 film of the play, starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. The 1999 high school comedy film 10 Things I Hate About You is loosely based on the play.
